Greyhounds dominate LaVernia 41-6 on senior night

On senior night,  the upper-classmen had big games, and so did their under-class teammates, as the Boerne Greyhounds won their sixth game in a row and improved to 7-2 on the season with a 41-6 romp over LaVernia (2-7) last Friday. This marks the fourth time the ‘Hounds have won a game this season by 30 or more points. The Greyhounds have now outscored their opponents 356-216 this season, an average score of 39-24.

Boerne took a 17-6 lead over the Bears in the first quarter, and after 21 unanswered points in the second, had a 38-6 lead at halftime, before coasting in the second half. Dominating the game on all fronts, the Greyhounds ran off 75 plays to 50 for the Bears, as they held a first-down advantage 22-10. Bourne outgained LaVernia in the air 321 to 107, and on the ground, 100-81 for a game total of 421 yards for the ‘Hounds to 188 for the Bears. Boerne also won the battle of takeaways, 4-0 on two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Senior quarterback Rashawn Galloway completed 16 of 37 passes for 292 yards and 4 TDs, and junior multi-purpose player Houston Hendrix saw action behind center and hit on 4 of 5 passes for 30 yards and also scored on a one-yard run and on a 13-yard catch on a pass from Galloway. Senior running back Adrian Cuervo led the running attack with 60 yards on 11 carries. Nine Greyhound receivers got into the act with receptions, led by junior Riley Pechacek with five receptions for 145 yards, including a 53-yard bomb from Galloway, for a touchdown. Senior Koby Hunter caught four for 64 yards and a TD, and junior Camden Johnson snared three throws for 21 and a score. Senior place-kicker Justin Moore converted on all five PATs and nailed a 28-yard field goal.

On defense, the Greyhounds made nine tackles for losses and were led by senior Jose Aparicio with nine tackles (one solo and eight assists), junior Landon Lestourgeon with seven tackles – two for losses (three solos and four assists), senior Tanner Lundy with seven tackles (one solo and six assists), and sophomore Charlie Stahl with six (four solos and two assists). The ‘Hounds; three sacks came from junior Brendan Lavada, senior Layton Middleton and senior Joshuah McDaniel. Senior Will Pearson had two interceptions, and Hendrix and sophomore Charlie Stahl each recovered a fumble.

The Greyhounds draw a bye this week.
